New Facility, New Technology, Same Community Based Practice Found at CookCountyHospital

Hospitals and Medical Professionals recognize the need to change as the medical world changes. Sometimes this is as simple as a new piece of equipment and sometimes it can be as large of a project as building a new medical facility. In 2002, CookCountyHospital in Illinois completed their project and commitment to provide a new state-of-the-art facility to better serve their community. They decided to undertake this project as a way to enhance the services that they already offer and add new medical options to better serve the community.

Located close to the original hospital building, their new facility is a 464 bed hospital, with beds dedicated for medical/surgical needs, obstetrics, pediatrics, intensive care, neonatal intensive care and burns. The new Cook County Hospital is also known as the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital. It is located at 1900 W. Polk St., Chicago, IL 60612. The main phone number for the hospital is 312-864-6000. The residency program at Cook County Hospital is affiliated with Rush Medical College.

The new hospital continues the tradition of the original hospital, which is to provide community focused hospital care through the latest in diagnostic equipment, treatment and preventative options. Services at the hospital include a Trauma Unit, Burn Unit, Neonatology/Perinatal Center, Perinatal Centers for high-risk maternal and infant services, the Specialty Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Adult & Pediatric Emergency Rooms, Ambulatory Care Clinics, Emergency Medicine and Same Day Surgery. They are nationally recognized for many of these services. For many, the idea that a hospital would undertake a task as large as building a whole new facility to better serve their needs is proof of their patient/community commitment.
